Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are tooth shaped caps which are placed over a tooth to restore its form, function, and aesthetics. This may be necessary in the event of tooth fracture in the case of trauma, discoloured teeth due to acquired or congenital anomalies or root canal treatment. The existing natural tooth is prepared to receive and make space for the crown. A bridge is used to replace one of more missing teeth. Both crowns and bridges are cemented to natural teeth or implants. Crowns are single units which are cemented directly onto the missing teeth whereas bridges take the help of teeth adjacent to the missing
Crowns are generally indicated in damaged teeth which cannot function normally. Some situations which may require crowns are listed below:
Bridges are indicated for replacing any missing tooth or teeth, with the support of adjacent standing teeth.
